What is Mini Roadracing?

Mini Roadracing is the sport of racing small displacement motorcycles on pavement, including go-kart tracks and indoor arena's. Current rules allow for two-stroke engine displacements up to 93cc, and four-stroke engine displacements up to 150cc. Common two stroke machines include Yamaha YSR50’s and 80’s, Honda NSR50RR’s and the Metrakit 50 and 80's and 80cc motocross (dirt) bikes fitted with street tires as well as GP 125's with 80cc 2 stroke liquid cooled engines transplanted in them.

(See Bikes Page)

Mini-road racing is very simular to full size road racing. The racing lines, acceleration and braking are all to scale of full sized road courses but without the top speed. Racing a bike of these sizes lets you go out have a great day of racing without the expense and speeds of full size road racing.  It does not take a new bike or a lot of money to be competitive. It is one of the cheapest forms of racing in Canada. All mini road racing clubs are really out to have a good time and a little bit of friendly competition. Come on out and race!

Who does Mini Roadracing?

Anyone 8 years and older.  It is truly a family sport.  There are race classes for kids, ladies, beginners and experts in addition to the regular classes based on engine type.  The Calgary club members ranges from 8 to 60 years young. Mini road racing might not be right for everyone, but it is right for anyone.

It sounds like fun, but it also sounds expensive.  What does it cost?

Actually, less than you’d think.  It is possible to buy a used bike, trailer, riding gear, and pay all the fees for the year for less than $3000.  From then on, you only need to maintain your machine and pay your fees.

I have a Pocket Bike; can I bring it out to the track?

Sure!  Pocket bikes fall within the engine displacement limits, We have been racing pocketbikes in our club for four years now and look forward to seeing this class grow with the new popularity of these little bikes.

"Can I come out and Volunteer"

Sure! some of the best seats are out on the track holding a flag watching the action as it goes by, It is the people behind the scenes that make a race great. The AMRA has up to 14 scheduled race dates locally in a average season, If you like challenges, love meeting new people and are into the racing scenes, then a volunteer position for the races held at an AMRA event is for you! Although volunteering can be challenging and exhausting in some cases, the rewards are immense, leaving one with lasting memories. In addition, lives of individuals and communities are improved by the positive impact of volunteer action.

"What Can I get from little bikes on a track"

Your Limits

Little bikes on the track offer a distraction free environment, no cars, curbs or intersections, everyone is going in the same direction, no yellow lines, riders use the whole road surface to find their cornering limits. We want riders to approach and recognize their limits because every rider has boundaries that act as barriers to their improvement. Finding and overcoming these limitations, one at a time, is the way to improvement. Riders all over the world agree that the real cornering limits are fear and panic.. The track is like a laboratory, it's clean and controlled and riders can approach their own limits with full attention on improvement. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that a closed road circuit is the safest place to test your limits.
