The Proposal

To build a Kart track and paddock on approximately 20 acres of the land and have included a sketch showing the proposed layout. To help ensure that the facility remains financially viable we will invite other groups that have complimentary interests to utilize portions of the land for their activities. We have strong interest from the Calgary Sports Car Club (CSCC), and the Air Cadets, Airdrie group. The CSCC would utilize approx 50 acres for their circuit and skid pads. The Air Cadets have new buildings donated to them and require land to erect them on. These buildings would be located on the 20 acres dedicated to the Kart Club.

CKRC

The CKRC (a not for profit society) hosts 12 races a year consisting of 10 club races and 2 National races for the Western Canadian Championships. The CKRC presently races on a facility they built on land subleased from Race City Speedway. That land is now required by the City of Calgary and the leases have been terminated at the end of 2009. The CKRC has been active since the 1970’s, have built 2 tracks and managed all of the Kart racing in the Calgary area during that time. There are 180 members with 80 racers present on a typical race weekend. There is a bias toward Juniors in the club, since 60% of the racers are Juniors (under 16 years of age).

AMRA

The Alberta Mini motorcycle Racing Association would utilize the Kart track on complimentary weekends from the CKRC and would have 8 races a year for their group. They are a family oriented amateur race club, which races miniature motorcycles (up to 150 cc) for recreation and enjoyment. They have hosted the largest mini roadracing event in North America in 2006 with 302 class entries. The AMRA hosts 1 of 5 National Motorcycle events, at Calgary on an annual basis.

CSCC

The Calgary Sports Car Club is a not for profit society, whose main focus is to furthur the sport of Motor Racing. The Club was founded in 195? and has been responsible for the organization of all FIA sanctioned motorsports (other than karting) since it’s inception. CSCC has 5 separate types of activities organized by the club consisting of Solo Sprint (track lapping), Autoslalom (timed event on a pylon course), Winter Autocross (gravel/snow event similar to Autoslalom), Rallying, and Circuit Racing. All disciplines incorporate driver training and development as well as the competitive nature.

They would require about 50 acres to build 2 skid pads and a 2+Mile racing circuit for their use.

CMRA

The Calgary Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA) is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization incorporated in the province of Alberta, Canada. The CMRA was formed in 1987 to give local motorcycle enthusiasts a means to improve their motorcycling skills through racing.
The CMRA is a highly respected organization throughout the Canadian motorcycling community, hosting the internationally televised Canadian National Superbike Series and its own CMRA Regional racing series.

Air Cadets

The Airdrie Air Cadets have had for some time an offer to build 2 new buildings for their marching practice and meeting area. These buildings would be positioned on the CKRC and CSCC land. Prior to initiating discussions with us, they had been unable to find land that is suitable for their use. They are presently discussing with their provincial organization the suitability of our 80 acre site for their use. They expect that this site would suit them.

Other Groups

The Calgary's Motard group are also on line to support the efforts of this new 80 Acre facility

We would like to attract other groups and have had discussions with others such as the CARA (Calgary Amateur Radio Association), and RC GEARS (Radio Control Gas and Electric Auto Racing Society of Calgary) to see if they are interested in this site. Both of these groups currently rent land from the CSCC and they would be required to move at the same time as the CSCC. Their land use may or may not be able to be met at our facility.

We are very open to suggestions from groups that are interested in using the facility at periods of time when there is no racing, this could include a variety of activities including winter driver training course. Any uses would be subject to written agreements and our insurance coverage.

Some of the goals so far are to build the tracks so races can be run in both directions safely and have all clubs involved on the track layout and design, as well to be able to run both the Kart and large tracks at the same time so multi events can run.

Latest Update From the CKRC March 04/09

The application to rezone the land is in circulation at the MD of Rocky The process is being expedited so we should know of any potential problems from their various departments by the end of this Month. Address them – the MD then puts out public notices in the area – month or so after that we get a council meeting that decides the issue. – Think July time frame.
Planning permission for the actual facility layout then takes about 6 -8 weeks. If we do our homework that plan is submitted the day or week after the council decides to rezone the land.
Construction starts around September for small bore racing in April / May 2010.

Located only 60kms - 40 minutes from the Calgary international Aiport

With every endevor there are always set backs, Tony the CKRC and the AMRA are out to cover all negative feedback and our amateur sports are a postive aspect to any community, Most of our City council just can't see this,
It's the misconseptions of noise and traffic that must be addressed, We are well with in the sound parameters and there is still major support in the area, The clubs are working with the positive people to make this happen. At the same time we need to pressure the city to keep the facilty we still need constant pressure on our alderman and the mayor to keep what we have, (please write a letter and send it off every day)
Every one needs to send a letter to all the aldermen daily, Sooner or later they must listen, Remember the vote did happen on a day with missing aldermen and was not accurate, Please support us with a demand for a revote so our Amateur sport with kids involved can keep going.
The City can't turn against kids and Amateur Sport can they.
Heres your list please keep sending letters, We will keep supplying the demo's
